Sun Devils Finish Strong In Final Round

Stephan Gross carried his great play into the third day of action, leading ASU to a seventh place finish in the Big Island/ UH- Hilo Intercollegiate Invitational. The Sun Devils final three-day combined total was an 11-over par 875 (296-291-288), giving them three straight top-ten finishes.
Gross, a sophomore from Germany, followed his second day 67 with an equally impressive 3-under 69. His 4-under 212 (76-67-69) put him only two strokes behind the leader, and earned him a career-best 3rd place finish in the Invitational.
Tristan Bierenbroodspot finished second on the team and 24th overall with a 5-over par 221 (73-74-74), while fellow junior Knut Borsheim shot an 8-over par 224 (74-77-73) to tie for 39th. James Byrne shot his second consecutive 4-over par 76, ending the three-day contest with a 9-over par 225 (73-76-76). The last member of the team portion, Jesper Kennegard, continued his strong play with an even-par 72, finishing the tournament with a 15-over par 231 (85-74-72).
Playing individually, Scott Pinckney recorded a 2-over par 74 on the final day, earning him a 7-over par 223 and a 35th place finish.
The Sun Devils next tournament, the John Hayt Invitational, begins on Presidents Day in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
