Cal Returns to Seattle for Husky Classic

California returns to action when the Golden Bears return to Seattle and the Dempsey Indoor Facility for the Husky Classic on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Bears also competed in the Jan. 30-31 UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor, where they recorded five NCAA provisional qualifiers.
The Bears also collected six NCAA qualifiers in the season-opening Cherry and Silver Invitational on Jan. 24 at New Mexico. In all, six Bears have posted NCAA qualifiers so far this season.

Bears Strong in Seattle
Cal posted five NCAA provisional qualifying marks or times on the last day of the UW Invitational on Jan. 31 at Dempsey Indoor. Bears junior Kristen Meister and sophomore teammate Cherrelle Garrett each won an event with a provisional qualifier, with Meister winning the women's high jump with an indoor career-high mark of 1.82 meters (5-11.50), and Garrett claiming the women's 60-meter dash in 7.39 seconds. Cal senior Ed Wright took second place in the men's high jump with a provisional-qualifying 2.15 meters (7-00.50) and sophomore Bear Allison Stokke placed third in the women's pole vault with a provisional-qualifying mark of 4.07 meters (13-04.25).
Garrett clocked a provisional-qualifying 7.41 in the 60-meter preliminary heats before lowering her time in the final.
Meister bettered her provisional qualifier from the Cherry and Silver Invitational, while Garrett (in the 60) and Wright (in the high jump) posted better qualifiers in the Albuquerque meet.
Morgan Hits Automatic Qualifier in Albuquerque
Senior Katie Morgan, the 2008 NCAA outdoor champion in the pole vault, won the women's pole vault invitational with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and Cherrelle Garrett won the 60- and 200-meter dashes in provisional qualifying times to highlight the Golden Bears' performances in New Mexico's Cherry and Silver Invitational on Jan. 24 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Cal also collected provisional qualifying marks in both high jumps, with Ed Wright winning the men's event with a mark of 2.19 meters (7-02.25), senior Inika McPherson winning the women's high jump (1.81 meters, 5-11.25) and Kristen Meister posting a high-jump qualifier of 1.78 meters (5-10.00) with her third-place finish, and in the women's 60-meter hurdles, with junior Kimyon Broom running a 8.38 in the preliminary race.
Morgan posted a vault of 4.20 meters (13-09.25) to claim the win in the elite pole vault event at the meet.
Garrett, who anchored Cal's eighth-place 4x100-meter relay and competed in the 100-meter dash in last year's NCAA Championships, also ran personal-best times in the 60 (7.39) and the 200 (23.83) in the Lobos' meet.
Cal is off till it competes in the Feb. 27-28 MPSF Championships also at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle.
