Ourada Caps Big Week with Gymnast of Week Honors
Feb. 10, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - A career-best all-around score Sunday was only the beginning for Stanford's five-time All-America Nicole Ourada this week.
On Monday, she learned that she moved up six spots to No. 2 in the national all-around rankings and helped Stanford jump from No. 6 to No. 4 as a team.
And, on Tuesday, she was named Gymnast of the Week by the Pacific-10 Conference.
Ourada, from Germantown, Wis., has earned All-America honors in the all-around, but never scored as high as her 39.625 on Sunday against UC Davis. The senior, who had previously competed in just one all-around in 2009 and began the season nursing a shoulder injury, won all four events.
Only one event mark dipped below 9.9, as Ourada scored 9.9 on vault, 9.925 on bars, 9.875 on beam, and 9.925 to tie her career-best on the floor exercise. The vault and bars scores were season-bests for Ourada.
The performances launched her to No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in the conference in all-around (39.5 average). She also ranks No. 4 nationally on the beam (9.887), is tied for No. 17 on the floor (9.85) and No. 24 on vault (9.85).
This is Ourada's second career weekly honor from the Pac-10.
