Trojans Still In Second At Northrop Grumman

Behind a 1-under performance from freshman Jennifer Song and another solid outing from sophomore Lizette Salas, the No. 3 USC women's golf team is in second place after 36 holes of the 2009 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C. on Tuesday (Feb. 10).
On a cool, crisp day with wind kicking up in the latter part of the afternoon while the leaders were playing, Arizona State maintained first place, expanding its lead to 13 strokes after finishing the second round at 31-over 599 (304-294). The Trojans posted the second-best round of the day, enabling them to secure solo ownership of second place at 44-over 612 (313-299). UCLA is in third (619) while Wake Forest is fourth (621) and Denver is fifth (627).
Salas is again in second place at 5-over 147 (73-74), six back of Arizona State's Juliana Murcia, who is holding steady at 1-under 141 (70-71). Sun Devil Carlota Ciganda is third at 6-over 148 while Song is fourth at 7-over 149 (79-70).
Salas is after her fourth top 10 finish in as many outings this season while Song is seeking her third top 10 mark.
Junior Belen Mozo is tied for 22nd at 15-over 157 (80-77), freshman Inah Park is tied for 51st at 21-over 163 (85-78) and junior Stefanie Endstrasser is tied for 66th at 25-over 167 (81-86). Junior Caroline Kim, playing as an individual, is tied for 53rd at 22-over 164 (84-80).
Play concludes Wednesday with a shotgun start scheduled for 8 a.m.
