Jacobson Signs with D.C. United

BERKELEY - Former California midfielder Andrew Jacobson signed a contract with D.C. United from Major League Soccer today, as announced by the professional organization. Jacobson, who had previously been playing for FC Lorient in France, was originally drafted by D.C. United in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.
Cal now has 10 former players active in the MLS and is one of the top collegiate programs for active players in the league. The other former Bears in the MLS are Stefan Frei (FC Toronto), Troy Roberts (L.A. Galaxy), Mike Munoz (L.A. Galaxy), Steve Purdy (FC Dallas), Josh Saunders (L.A. Galaxy), Luke Sassano (New York Red Bulls), Calen Carr (Chicago Fire), Tyson Wahl (Kansas City Wizards) and Eric Kronberg (Kansas City Wizards).
While at Cal, Jacobson, Jacobson was picked as an NSCAA first-team All-American and was a Soccer America second-team MVP as a senior. Also, he and Frei were named to the NSCAA Far West All-Region first team. Jacobson, a native of Palo Alto, Calif., was named the 2007 Pac-10 Co-Player of the Year and garnered All-Pac-10 first-team honors. He tied for the Cal team lead in shots (44), collected 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists) and had 15 shots on goal in 2007. On Senior Day against UCLA, Jacobson scored in his final regular-season home match. Jacobson also got Cal's first goal in the Golden Bears' 2-1 victory over UC Davis in the first round of the 2007 NCAA College Cup.
