Mike Riley Receives Prestigious Award
Feb. 11, 2009
Corvallis, Ore. -
Oregon State University head football coach Mike Riley was the recipient of the Slats Gill Sportsperson of the Year Award at last Sunday’s Oregon Sports Awards at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike campus in Beaverton.
Riley led the Beavers to a 9-4 record in 2008, including a tie for second in the Pac-10 Conference at 7-2. He was named the Pac-10 Conference Coach of the Year for the first time and led OSU to its fifth consecutive bowl victory, defeating Pittsburgh 3-0 in the Sun Bowl. The eighth-year head coach has led the Beavers to three consecutive Associated Press Top-25 rankings and defeated then No. 1 USC at Reser Stadium in September.
The award is named after former Oregon State men’s basketball coach and athletic director the late Amory “Slats” Gill and is presented annually to the state’s top athletic administrator or coach.
