Oregon State-Washington Post-Game Quotes
Feb. 12, 2009
Oregon State head coach LaVonda Wagner
Overall thoughts on the game ...'I felt like tonight was a huge step for us. We got in some early foul trouble at the point guard position. Mercedes Fox-Griffin is very used to running our point and keeping us poised under pressure. We had to put her on the bench early in the first half. Brittney Davis took over the point and did a great job of keeping us poised, running our plays, getting us in the right spots, and then switching up our defenses. We were able to go into half with a 10 point lead. So I felt like that was instrumental in our success tonight.'
On the second half ...
'In the second half we just had an attack mindset. We wanted to come out and be the aggressors, we did that. We were able to get to the free throw line, and then take and make our free throws.'
On refocusing in the middle of the season ...
'Every season has its ebbs and flows, and teams are up and down and all around. I think for us the main thing is we had a very good preseason showing, and then we started in the conference and we kind of got shell-shocked a little bit when we went away and played the Los Angeles schools, and lost a little bit of our confidence. Then we settled down and realized who we are and what we need to do to execute. I think we all understand that we have to play our part, we have to contribute, and we have to play a certain way. I think everyone is very comfortable and confident in that.'
Guard Brittney Davis
On going 12-for-12 on free throws ...
'I was just really focused on making my free throws. Coach always harps on free throws and we know they are very important. Those should be free and we should always make free throws. I was focusing and making sure that I got my rhythm right and that I did not shoot the ball flat.'
Center Alex Mitchell
On what they took away from the game ...
'We just understand that when we stay together, we can do anything. We stayed together the whole forty minutes and got the win.'
