California Falls to No. 24 Arizona State

The California Golden Bears continued their season of improvement, posting their highest team score of the season in their duel meet against the Arizona State Sun Devils Friday, Feb. 13 in Tempe. The Bears posted a season-best 191.475, but couldn't match the No. 24 Sun Devils 193.725.
The Bears posted higher team scores than Arizona State on the beam, with the Bears scoring a 48.275 to ASU's 48.125, and on the vault 48.500 to 48.350, but Arizona State, fueled by two 9.90 scores on the floor and all-around solid performances on the bars, edged the Bears in the final team point tally.
The Bears team vault score was their best in that event this season. Senior Bridgette Glass matched her career high scoring a 9.875 on her vault. Junior Sophia Hocini had a season-best 9.800 on her vault. Freshman Alexandra Leggitt had a career-high 9.600.
On the beam, Glass led the Bears with a 9.750. Sophomore Stephanie Cheng followed with a 9.675.
The Bears' high marks of the meet came on the floor with sophomore Avery Gee and Hocini on the floor, where both gymnasts scored 9.825.
On the bars, Glass and senior Joanna Bennett once again led the Bears, with Glass scoring a 9.775 and Bennett a 9.750.
Hocini was the top all-arounder for the Bears, with her score of 38.475 earning her third place in the all-around competition.
The Bears are back home at Haas Pavilion next Sunday, Feb. 22 when they host Stanford in a 2 p.m. meet. It's the Pink Meet for the Bears. As part of a breast cancer awareness promotion, all fans wearing pink will be admitted into the game free of charge.
