SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The matchups are set for the 16 teams competing in the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Men's and Women's Team Indoor Championships. The University of Illinois will host the 35th annual Men's Championships at Midtown Tennis Club, February 13-16. The University of Wisconsin will host the Women's tournament for the 22nd consecutive year at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis., also held February 13-16. The Pac-10 will be represented by STANFORD, UCLA and USC on the men's side and CALIFORNIA, Stanford, UCLA and USC on the women's side.
The Stanford men (4-0) are currently ranked No. 11 in the ITA Rankings and have wins over No. 53 Hawai'i-Manoa, No. 30 Boise State and No. 29 Auburn. The Cardinal also have three players ranked in singles play. The UCLA men enter the weekend at 5-0 and are currently the fourth-ranked team in the ITA Rankings. The Bruins have posted victories over No. 66 BYU, No. 30 Boise State, No. 72 South Alabama, No. 42 Fresno State and No. 57 San Diego State. UCLA's Matt Booklyn (67) and Nick Meister (78) are ranked in singles play. The USC men are 5-0 and currently No. 6 in the ITA Rankings. The Trojans have four players ranked in singles (No. 7 Robert Farah, No. 54 Matt Kecki, No. 58 Steve Johnson and No. 64 Abdullah Magdas) and two teams ranked in doubles (No. Farah/Johnson and No. 46 Kells/Nguyen).
The California women's team is currently ranked second in the ITA Rankins with a 3-0 overall record. The Golden Bears' wins include No. 45 Long Beach State and No. 36 Washington. Five Cal players are ranked in singles play and two teams are ranked in doubles. The Stanford women are 3-0 on the season and ranked No. 5 in the ITA Rankings. Its wins include No. 47 Colorado and No. 35 Illinois. The Cardinal have two players ranked in singles play and one doubles team. The UCLA women are the third-ranked team in the country with a 4-0 record this season. They have notched victories over No. 40 Pepperdine, No.66 Minnesota and No. 23 LSU. The Bruins have four players ranked in singles play and two team ranked in doubles action. The USC women are No. 9 in the ITA Rankings with a 4-0 record. The Women of Troy have earned vicotires over No. 65 UC Irvine, No. 45 Long Beach State, No. 67 Michigan State and No. 25 Texas A&M. The Trojans have five players ranked in singles and three teams ranked in doubles.
