No. 11 Stanford Falls To No. 3 Georgia In ITA National Team Indoor Semifinals

Feb. 15, 2009

CHICAGO - The No.11 Stanford men's tennnis team's bid for the 2009 ITA National Team Indoor title ended today with a 4-2 loss to third-ranked Georgia in the semifinals of the tournament.

The Cardinal surrendered the doubles point for the third-straight day, but not without a fight as senior Matt Bruch and freshman Ryan Thacher won at the No. 2 position over Christian Vitulli and Borja Malo 8-5 to force the doubles point to be decided by the third match.

Stanford then rallied back to go up 2-1 with wins from Thacher and No. 62 sophomore Richard Wire at the four and five singles positions, but that would be the rest of the scoring for the Cardinal, as the Bulldogs took the next three matches and the victory.

Stanford will next play No. 20 Pepperdine on Friday, Feb. 20 at the Taube Tennis Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
