Stanford's Klahn, California's Andersson Named Pac-10 Men's And Women's Tennis Players Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD freshman Bradley Klahn and CALIFORNIA sophomore Mari Andersson have been named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for Feb. 9 - 15, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Klahn helped lead Stanford to two upsets over top-10 opponents at the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championships. The Cardinal knocked off No. 7 Florida, 4-3, in the first round of the tournament before upsetting second-ranked Texas, 4-3, in the second round. Klahn, a native of Poway, Calif., sealed the victory for Stanford against the Longhorns with his 1-6, 7-6 (8), 7-5 comeback over Kellen Damico of Texas. The Cardinal are now 6-1 on the season.

This is the first weekly honor for Klahn and the third all-time for Stanford.

Andersson won five of her six matches at the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships held in Madison, Wis. She helped the Golden Bears advance to the semifinal for the first time since 2004. The Bastad, Sweden, native claimed two-set victories over three different ranked opponents in singles play beginning with No. 111 Keri Wong of Clemson, 6-2, 7-5. She then took out No. 27 Christy Striplin of Georgia Tech, 6-1, 6-4. Although the Bears couldn't win the team match, the sophomore still won her match as she defeated No. 100 Yvette Hyndman of Georgia, 7-6, 6-0.

Andersson has run her singles record to 8-1 at Cal this season. She also holds a doubles record of 6-1.
