Men's Golf Travels to USC for First Spring Event

The Event

The Oregon State men’s golf team is back in action next week as they travel to California for the USC Collegiate Invitational in Westlake, Calif. and runs Monday and Tuesday Feb. 23-24. The field will play 36 holes on Monday starting at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start for both rounds. Tuesdays round also starts at 7:30 a.m. but will be a traditional start with tee times going off of the first and 10th holes.

The Course

The Event will take place at the North Ranch CC. Par is 71 and the total distance of the course is 6,869 yards.

The Field

BYU, Cal, Fresno State, LMU, Pacific, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego St., Stanford, UC Irvine, UCLA, USC, Washington.

Last Year at USC

The Beavers finished in 10th place last year and were led by then Senior James Allenby who was 13-over for the event.

Last OSU Event

The Beavers last hit the links at the in Hawaii at the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational where they finished eighth.

The Lineup

-Alex Williams (2008-09: 74.22 average, Low 70, 15 rounds)

Team co-captain from Vancouver, Wash. (Skyview HS) … Played in every event during the fall season Best finish was a tie for 14th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

-Diego Velasquez (2008-09: 72.47 average, Low 68, 15 rounds)

Junior from Bogata Columbia (Gimnasio Los Caobos) claimed his first collegiate win at the 2008 Giustina Memorial Classic finishing 8-under par (208) Finished tied for 16th at the San Francisco Intercollegiate (+5, 218) Finished tied for 16th at the Husky Invitational (+6, 222) Finished tied for 19th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (+8, 224).

-Paul Peteson (2008-09: 72.33 average, Low 67, 15 rounds)

Junior from Salem, Ore. (Sprague HS) leads the team in scoring average with 72.33 … Has the lowest round on the team this year with a 67 in the final round of the San Francisco Intercollegiate … Has finished in the top-10 in three of the five fall tournaments Finished third at the 2008 Giustina Memorial Classic (-4, 212) Finished tied for third at the San Francisco Intercollegiate (+1, 214).

-Morten Madsen (Has yet to see action this season)

Freshman from Silkeborg, Denmark (Silkeborg Gymnasium) joined the team mid season after being cleared by the NCAA Ranked 152nd in the world as an amateur.

-Jonnie Motomochi (2008-09: 75.56 average, Low 69, 9 rounds)

Freshman from Delta, B.C., Canada (Sands Secondary) played in three of the five tournaments during the fall season … Best finish was a tie for 26th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (+10, 226) … Lowest round was a 69 in the final round at the 2008 Turtle Bay Resort Collegiate Invitational.
