Diamond Dawgs To Play At Safeco Twice In 2009
Feb. 23, 2009
SEATTLE - For the third straight year, the Washington baseball team will play at Safeco Field this season. However, this year, the Huskies will play a pair of games at the home of the Seattle Mariners: April 3 vs. Arizona State and May 8 vs. Oregon State.
The last two years, the Huskies have played host to Oregon State and Arizona at Safeco. In 2007, the Dawgs beat the defending national champion Beavers, 6-2, in front of 10,421 fans, a Pac-10 record for a conference game. OSU went on to win a second straight College World Series that year. Last season, the Dawgs beat Arizona, 1-0, on a two-hit, 15-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Nick Haughian. That game was played before a crowd of 5,187.
'We're extremely happy to have two more games on tap at Safeco Field this year,' 17th-year Husky head coach Ken Knutson said. 'The Mariners organization has been very hospitable the last two years and everyone involved has had a great time. It's really a terrific experience for our team and our fans.'
'Safeco Field is the perfect place to watch a baseball game, and we are happy to again welcome Huskies players and fans for what promises to be some great Pac-10 matchups,' said Chuck Armstrong, Seattle Mariners President and COO.
First pitch for both games is set for 6:30 p.m. KKNW AM-1150 will carry the radio broadcast of each game.
Tickets are currently on sale at the Husky Ticket Office, online at gohuskies.com, or by phone at (206) 543-2200. Tickets will also be available at the Safeco Field Box Office starting March 14.
