DAY 2 RESULTS

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – After cutting 10 strokes from Monday’s round, the Oregon State women’s golf team moved up four spots into a tie for 18th place at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Monday.

“As a group we played a lot better today,” head coach Rise Lakowske said. “Our course management was greatly improved and our shot selection was much better.”

Oregon State shot a team score 21-over-par 309 at Oak Point, a par-72, 5,907 yard course. Through two rounds the Beavers posted a cumulative score of 628 (319-309), tying for 18th, good enough to make to the 22 team field that will the play the Cougar Point course on Wednesday for the final 18-hole round of the tournament.

Freshman Elyse Okada recorded the team low for the day shooting a 2-over-par, 74, making for a six shot improvement from round one. Okada jumped 45 spots from a tie for 84th on Sunday to finish Monday in a tie for 39th with a two-round score of 154 (80-74).

“Elyse had a very good day. Her short game was the difference in her play today,” head Lakowske said. “She putted very well and played smart.”

Yesterday’s team leader, sophomore Cara Freeman, had another solid round shooting a 5-over-par, 77, leaving her in a tie for 39th with a two-round score of 154 (77-77).

Elise Aoki of Central Florida, Mary Kate Bird of Nebraska and Jessica Yadloczky are all tied for the lead with a 2-over-par 146. Miami sits atop the team leaderboard with a 17-over-par, 605.

Oregon State returns to action tomorrow morning at the par-72, 6,009 yard Cougar Point course for the final 18-hole round with a 6:45 a.m. PST shotgun start.

“I am looking forward to tomorrow’s round at Cougar Point,” Lakowske said. “We need to continue to play smart, have better course management and stick to our game plan. If we do those things we can play very competitive.”
