The No. 11 USC women's swimming and diving team broke school records in both the 200y medley relay and the 800y free relay as well over 200 yards (in the 800y relay leadoff) to kick off the 2009 Pac-10 Swimming and Diving Championships in strong fashion at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Wash., on Wednesday (Feb. 25).

USC is in third after the first two events with 106 points. Cal is first (120) and Arizona is second (116).

The quartet of freshman Katinka Hosszu, senior Rachael Waller, junior Krissy Forelli and sophomore Ellie Doran finished third in the 800y free relay in 7:07.59, an NCAA `B' cut. The previous school record was 7:09.14, set by Kalyn Keller, Kaitlin Sandeno, Cait Connealy and Joanna Fargus at the 2004 Pac-10 Championships.

Hosszu's leadoff time of 1:45.22 also erased the 200y free record of 1:45.73 set by Sue Habernigg in 1984, the oldest women's school record on the books.

In the first relay, seniors Kristen Lahey, Rebecca Soni, Katy Houston and Waller took fourth in the 200y medley relay in 1:38.74, also an NCAA `B' cut. That time erased the 2006 record of 1:39.97 set by Hayley McGregory, Soni, Lahey and McIntyre in a dual meet against UCLA.

The meet continues Thursday through Saturday, prelims beginning at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. each day.
