On The Horizon
Oregon State wraps up its Pac-10 regular season next weekend. The Beavers host USC Thursday night at 7 p.m., followed by a matinee affair against UCLA on Saturday. That game starts at 12:30 p.m. and will be Senior Day, honoring Tiffany Ducker, Brittney Davis and Mercedes Fox-Griffin.
Oregon comes into Saturday night's game with a 9-17 overall record and 5-10 in mark in Pac-10 play. Since playing Oregon State on January 31, the Ducks are 1-6.
Micaela Cocks, like she did when she played Oregon State the first time, leads the team in scoring with 13.7 points per game. Ellie Manou and Amanda Johnson, meanwhile, both average 5.2 rebounds per game to tie for the team lead.
On average, the Ducks are being outscored by nearly nine points a game. They are also being out-rebounded by four a game. Opponents are shooting .434 against them while Oregon is managing a 38.9 percent clip.
Bev Smith is in her eighth season as Oregon's head coach.
Oregon goes into Saturday's game with a 54-20 all-time series lead. The Ducks hold a 22-11 advantage in games played in Corvallis. The Beavers snapped a three-game Oregon win streak with the win at McArthur Court in January.
Last Game vs. UO - January 31, 2009
Four players scored in double figures as the Oregon State women's basketball team defeated Oregon, 61-42, in the first Civil War game of the 2008-09 season at McArthur Court.
Brittney Davis led Oregon State with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting. She was joined by Mercedes Fox-Griffin (13 points), Alex Mitchell (12) and Tiffany Ducker (10) in double-figure scoring as the Beavers shot better than 43 percent from the field.Ducker, in fact, had Oregon State's first double-double of the season, grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with her 10 points.
Oregon, meanwhile, shot 42.9 percent but attempted nine less shots than Oregon State. OSU also connected on three more three-pointers and eight more free throws.
Overall, the Beavers dominated offensively, nailing 4-of-9 three-pointers, including two by Talisa Rhea.
Game 26 Recap - Feb. 24
The Oregon State women's basketball team concluded its regular season non-conference slate by defeating UC Santa Barbara, 70-51, Tuesday night at The Thunderdome.
Three different Beavers scored in double figures to lead the team Tuesday night, led by Talisa Rhea, who sank three three-pointers to finish with 23 points. Rhea sank 10 baskets from the field and had her sixth 20-point game of the season.
Brittney Davis kept her double-figures streak intact at 11 games after getting 19 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Davis hit on two three-pointers - both coming in the first half - and was good on 7-of-8 free-throw attempts.
Alex Mitchell also hit double figures for Oregon State, grabbing 14 points to go along with six rebounds.
Overall, the Beavers shot 45.9 percent from the field compared to 42.9 percent for UCSB. The Beavers attempted 12 more shots from the field, and 13 overall from beyond the three-point line.
Oregon State also set a school record with fewest turnovers with four. The original record of six was set in 2006 against Oregon, and that was equaled in the seventh game of this season against UNLV.
It's time for conference play again but an important note needs to be made about the Beavers' non-conference record. OSU finished with 10 non-conference wins in the regular season. That figure is the most in a single-season for the Beavers - including the postseason - since OSU joined the Pac-10 in the 1986-87 season.
Another School Record
Oregon State also set another school record against UC Santa Barbara. The Beavers turned the ball over just four times. That's the fewest in a game, bettering the six turnovers against UNLV this season and against Oregon in the 2006 season.
She Deserves A Permanent Spot Here
Brittney Davis hit for 19 points against UC Santa Barbara, and she comes into the Oregon game with 11 straight double-figure efforts.
Halftime Is Key
The Beavers scored 39 second-half points on Tuesday, but they had the lead at half. OSU is 16-1 this season when leading at half.
