Arizona International Meet Cancelled

March 3, 2009

The annual Arizona International track and field meet that was scheduled to be held this weekend will be cancelled due to a low number of competitors, team officials said yesterday.

As many schools across the nation prepare for indoor national championships, it became increasingly difficult to bring in a sufficient amount of competitors, which led to the cancellation.  Instead, the UA will utilize the weekend to give their own national championship contenders a good training session as they prepare to head to College Station, Texas next weekend for the 2009 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.  The meet will also give UA track and field officials a chance to earn some extra training.

The first official home meet will now be the Willie Williams Classic held March 20.

Several of the on-the-brink UA athletes will also head to Seattle, Wash. this weekend to take part in a Last Chance Meet as they try to climb into the national top-16 descending order list and earn last second qualifications to College Station.
