Women's Rowing Set to Open Season at Victoria
March 4, 2009
The Oregon State women’s crew travels to British Columbia to begin its spring season this Saturday, March 7, against the University of Victoria.
Last year, the Oregon State faced Victoria in home territory at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore. This regatta ended in a clean sweep as the Beavers rowed to victories in the Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+, and both the Novice 8+ “A” and “B” boats. Heading north, Oregon State intends to repeat that success.
“This is a great race for us,” head coach Emily Ford said. “The folks up in Victoria are always gracious hosts and it is a perfect opportunity to get early racing experience against a formidable opponent. The goal for the weekend is to race hard across the board and to come home knowing more about ourselves than when we left.”
The regatta starts at 9 a.m. with the V4+ boats hitting the water first, followed by the Novice 8+ race at 9:15. The V8+ will take on Victoria’s best rowers at 10, finishing with the 2V8+ at 10:30.
