Box Score

Manoa, Hawai’i – Freshman Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) threw her third shutout of the season in a 2-0 Oregon State softball victory over No. 25 Mississippi State on Friday afternoon.

Hall scattered six hits throughout the complete game with one strikeout on only 65 pitches.

Senior Stefanie Ewing (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led the Beaver battery going 2-for-2 with a run of the team’s six total hits. Sophomore Tarah Black (Portland, Ore.) batted in the two Oregon State runs with her only hit of the game.

Oregon State found they could hit Lindsey Dunlap early, earning three straight hits to load the bases with one out. But all three were left stranded in the middle of the second inning.

In a similar situation in the top of the fourth, Oregon State loaded the bases behind a hit, a walk and a Mississippi State error. Black nailed a ball into the outfield that centerfielder Brittany Gates came up just short in catching as she dove for it, scoring Ewing and senior DeAnn Young (Camarillo, Calif.) and giving the Beavers a 2-0 lead.

The Beavers continued to hold off the Bulldogs throughout six innings before groundouts back to Hall, senior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) at second base and a line out to freshman Nikki Chandler (Houston, Texas) at shortstop closed out the game in favor of the Beavers.

Mississippi State’s Chelsea Bramlett went a perfect 3-for-3, reaching third twice, with eight putouts. Lindsey Dunlap was charged with the complete game loss, giving up no earned runs and fanning seven.

Oregon State takes on Santa Clara next at 11:00 a.m. PT on Saturday.
