Golfers Travel to Myrtle Beach for General Hackler Championship
March 7, 2009
The 17th-ranked UCLA men's golf team travels to the General Jim Hackler Championship, hosted by Coastal Carolina University at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, SC.
The Bruins are just one of two teams from the West Coast competing in the event. (Pepperdine is the other.) Eleven teams in the current GolfWeek Top 50 are competing in the 14-team field, including eighth-ranked Illinois and No. 10 South Carolina.
In its last event, UCLA placed fifth in the USC Collegiate Invitational. That finish was their second consecutive Top 5 result.
Freshman Gregor Main captured third place in the USC event, posting scores of 68-70-68--206 (-7). That was Main's fourth Top 20 result in four starts. He leads the Bruins with a scoring average of 71.5 and a pair of Top 10 finishes.
Completing the Bruins' lineup will be seniors Erik Flores and James Lee, sophomore Philip Francis and freshman Alex Shi Yup Kim. Francis tied for 10th at the USC event after posting a second round score of 66 (-5) and finishing at even par 213.
