SORRENTO, Fla. - The final four holes at the UCF Challenge claimed nine strokes over par as Arizona dropped to 15th place with a two-day total of 592, Monday afternoon at the Red Tail Golf Club.
The Wildcats, who are 16-over through two days of play, were poised to climb into the top five on the team leaderboard as they made the turn with a team score of 1-under par. Brittany Benvenuto made the turn on 18 at 1-under 35 while Alejandra Llaneza, Margarita Ramos and Isabelle Boineau all headed to the front after shooting 36 through nine holes.
However, the final nine holes proved a tougher task than the opening set of holes. The Wildcats managed just two birdies on the front nine while recording 12 bogeys and a pair of double-bogeys. Boineau fired the low round of the day for the Wildcats, finishing at 1-over 73 to sit at +5 for the tournament. Llaneza was 2-over on the day and is tied for 29th at +2.
The remainder of the Arizona squad all posted rounds of 4-over 76. Nikki Koller is currently 3-over for the tournament while Ramos is 6-over and Benvenuto is at +9.
Arizona State fired the low round of the day at 284 to take a one shot lead over UCLA at 8-under 568. Oklahoma State is in third place at 1-under while USC (+1) and Auburn (+8) round out the top five.
