The No. 7-ranked California women's tennis team (9-2, 2-0 Pac-10) welcomed No. 5 Baylor (6-4, 0-0 Big 12) to the Hellman Tennis Complex today and claimed a 4-3 victory as freshman Stephany Chang sealed the deal for the Golden Bears at No. 6 singles with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Kasia Siwosz. Chang needed to win the first-set tiebreaker (7-3) before she finished off Siwosz without dropping a game in the second set.

With all three doubles matches on pace to finish at nearly the same time, it was the Baylor Bears who seized the first win of the day as No. 24-ranked Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova took an 8-3 victory against Cal's senior tandem of Bojana Bobusic and Claire Ilcinkas on the second court. As the top-court score sat at 7-3 in Cal's favor, it was No. 3 doubles that would finish first. There, Nina Secerbegovic and Siwosz pulled out the 8-6 win over Chang and senior Marion Ravelojaona to secure the doubles point for Baylor. Seconds later, No. 13-ranked sophomore Mari Andersson and freshman Jana Juricova completed their 8-3 triumph over No. 55 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanviuk.

Even though Baylor had the point after doubles, it was Cal that came out with the momentum in singles play. No. 23-ranked Bobusic came off court first as she finished off No. 73 Borsanyi at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Baylor answered right back to take a 2-1 lead in the match as Secerbegovic dropped a 6-0, 6-2 win on Ravelojaona at No. 5 singles. Cal pushed right back to tie the match at two-all when No. 26 Juricova walked away with a 6-0, 6-2 win on the top court over No. 46-ranked Broosova. The win was Juricova's 25th singles victory of the year.

Looking to swing momentum back to the home side, No. 42 Ilcinkas overcame a 6-2 loss in the first set to win sets two and three by the same count, 6-2, over No. 34-ranked Stanviuk on court three. Chang seized the opportunity for the team victory at No. 6 singles next as she came up with her two-set win against Siwosz. No. 2 singles was the last match to finish, with No. 32 Ormond taking a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 win against No. 74 Andersson to make the final score, 4-3, Cal.

Cal will hit the road for two duals this weekend. Up first is Texas where Cal faces the Longhorns (5-4, 1-0 Big 12) on Friday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. in Austin, Texas. From there, Cal heads to Tempe, Ariz. where it will match up against No. 14 Arizona State (8-1, 3-0 Pac-10) in an 11 a.m. bout on Sunday, March 15. Please check CalBears.com for more information.
