Stanford Announces Men's Spring Soccer Schedule
March 10, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's soccer team will play four of its five matches at home during the spring season, which begins on April 17.
Here is the schedule:
April 17: Stanford at USF, 7:30 p.m.
April 25: Chico State at Stanford, 1 p.m.
May 1: UC Davis at Stanford, 7 p.m.
May 8: Sonoma State at Stanford, 7 p.m.
May 15: Santa Clara at Stanford, 7 p.m.
Stanford is coming off a 4-11-3 fall season in which the Cardinal held every opponent to two goals or fewer, but scored only 14 goals overall.
The spring season will allow Stanford to reconfigure its lineup to account for the eight seniors it lost, including defensive stalwerts Ryan Imamura and Tim Jones, and build the attack with several scoring options from younger players that gained valuable experience.
The spring season will showcase Stanford's two All-Pac-10 first-team selections, midfielder Michael Strickland and versatile Bobby Warshaw, who earned All-America third-team honors by topdrawersoccer.com.
Warshaw, a sophomore, played mostly at midfield and forward during his first two seasons, and has led the Cardinal in scoring each year. However, late in the season, Warshaw moved to central defense because of injuries and excelled there as well.
The coaches will give him a long look in defense this spring.
