Stanford Track And Field Signs 23 To National Letters Of Intent

Stanford, Calif. - Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field Edrick Floreal was pleased to announce today that 23 high school seniors have signed official letters of intent to compete in track and field and/or cross country at Stanford University during the 2009-10 school year.
The men's class includes 14 high school seniors that cover all event groups. 'This class covers all the areas of track and field and cross country,' said Floreal. 'These young men are highly motivated and nationally competitive they hold true to our philosophy of a well balanced team.'
Evan Appel - Dakota Ridge Senior. HS - Littleton, Colo.
A three-time Footlocker national championships finalist, finishing 29th, 21st, and sixth place respectively. Appel was selected as the Colorado Gatorade Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2008. He is a four-time Colorado All-State first team selection and winner of both the 2007 and 2008 Class 5A Colorado State Cross Country Championship. Appel is one of the nation's top returning 3200-meter runners with his time of 9:09.68.
Darien Bailey - Temecula Preparatory HS - Menifee, Calif.
A third place finisher in the decathlon at the SCA USATF National Junior Olympics and at the Mt. Sac HS Boys decathlon competition. The holder of the Temecula Prep School Records in the decathlon, triple jump, long jump, discus, 110m hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, 100 meters, high Jump, and was a member of the school record setting 4x400- and 4x100-meter relay.
Andrew Berberick - J.K. Mullen HS - Littleton, Colo.
In the 2008 Colorado State Track meet, Berberick earned All-State honors in the 3200, the 1600 and the 800 meters where he was the individual state champion. After his state meet, Andrew ran a PR in the 800 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals with a time 1:52.61. In his senior cross country season, Andrew was a Colorado All-State selection at the Colorado State Cross Country Championships. He then went on to qualify for the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships where he finished 17th.
Kevin Cardey - Justin-Siena HS - Napa, Calif.
The 2007 USATF Youth Outdoor Track and Field long jump champion, 2008 NCS champion in the 400 meters, the 2007 NCS Champion in the long and high Jump and a two-time All-Napa County First Team selection. He has also received the all-around best athlete Award at Justin-Siena HS.
Ramsey Chapin - Georgetown Prep - Bethesda, Md.
In his Junior season, Chapin ran 3:54.55 in the 1500 meters at the Boston High Performance Series. His time ranked among the top-ten high school 1500-meter times in the nation last year. During the 2008 Cross Country Season, Chapin led his team to the IAC title with his third place finish at the IAC championships and was one of Maryland's All-State Cross Country selections.
Spencer Chase - Desert Vista HS - Phoenix, Ariz.
Chase is a member of the state record setting and two-time Arizona state champion 4x400-meter relay. He is responsible for more than 25 of his team's conference points; scoring in the 100, 200, 400, 4x100 and 4x400 meters. He was also a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay at the Arcadia Invitational in 2008 with a time of 41.35. His personal bests are 10.86 in the 100-meter dash, 21.57 in the 200-meter dash and 47.45 in the 400 meters.
Colin Hester - Ben Davis HS - Indianapolis, Ind.
Colin qualified for the 2008 Indiana State meet in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x200 meters and the high jump. He was part of the record setting indoor state 4x200-meter squad. He is the M.I.C. Conference champion in the high jump and holds the Ben Davis High School freshmen record in the high jump at 6-6.
Robert Hintz - Bellevue HS - Bellevue, Wash.
Hintz has a personal best of 192-6 in the javelin. He is the 2008 league, district 3A and the Washington State javelin champion. He also led Bellevue High School to the League team championship with his win in the javelin.
Aaron Konigsberg - Hackley School - Purchase, N.Y.
The 2008 National Scholastic Indoor pole vault champion, the Eastern States javelin champion and the 2008 New York Relays decathlon champion. He holds the Hackley School record in the decathlon, pole vault, and the javelin.
Jules Sharpe - Oaks Christian HS - Woodland Hills Calif.
With a personal best of 7-1, Sharpe currently holds the nations fourth best high jump and California's No. 1 jump for the 2009 outdoor season. He is the 2008 Tri-Valley League high jump and triple jump champion. In 2008, he improved his performances as the Arcadia Invitational high jump runner-up, as well as the Mt. SAC Invitational high jump runner-up. He also improved his place at the Division IV meet in 2008 with a second place finish. While participating in Basketball this year, his team made the state semi-finals.
Tyler Stutzman - Western Albemarle HS - Charlottesville, Va.
Stutzman currently leads the national indoor 3200-meter list with his 9:05.58 victory at the Virginia Tech Invitational. His time is also the eighth fastest indoor 3200 meters all-time in the state of Virginia. Stutzman recently won Virginia AA State titles in the 1000 meters and the 1600 meters where he boasted personals best of 2:29.78 and 4:14.33 respectively.
Ryan Valdes - Dana Hills HS - San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Ryan finished 14th at the 2008 California State Cross Country Championships, helping his team win the California State Championship title. Along with his brother Tyler, the Valdes twins provided a strong 1-2 punch for Dana Hills. Paired with his cross country success, Ryan has also run 1:54.42 in the 800 meters.
Tyler Valdes - Dana Hills HS - San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Tyler ranks among the top 10 returning milers in the nation and California's top returning miler after running 4:11.58 in the 1600 meters in his junior season. Tyler earned All-State honors as a Junior in the 2008 State Track and Field Championships, where he finished sixth in the 1600 meters. At the 2008 California State Cross Country Championships, Tyler was the individual state champion as he led Dana Hills to the California State team title.
Sean Wallace - Owatonna HS - Owatonna, Minn.
In the league and section championships, Sean took second in both the shot put and discus. At the Class 2A State Meet he finished fourth and fifth in the shot put and discus, respectfully. Sean has a personal best of 58-1 in the shot put and 158-6 in the discus. He received the Owatonna High School AAA award for best combined student-athlete.
The women's class includes nine athletes that Floreal calls, 'A star studded and highly sought after group.' 'We are very excited by the level of achievement that some of these women have attained, from a USA national team member to school record holders. This class contains some of the best talent in the country across all the event areas.'
Karynn Dunn - Diamond Ranch HS - Diamond Bar, Calif.
Dunn is the 2008 California state long jump runner-up, the 2006/08 Arcadia long jump champion and the 2007/08 Diamond Ranch High School science department award recipient. Her accomplishments also include the 2008 San Gabriel Valley and the Flying Tigers Invitational female athlete of the year. She is the No. 1 ranked long jumper, the No. 5 ranked triple jumper and the No. 9 ranked 100-meter hurdlers in the country amongst high school seniors. She is also an excellent sprinter/hurdler with personal best of 11.91 in the 100-meter dash, 24.52 in the 200-meter dash and 13.86 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Alexandra Dunne - San Clemente HS - San Clemente, Calif.
This 2008 California State Cross Country Champion recently qualified for the 2009 Junior World Cross Country Championships after finishing third in the Junior USA National Championships. Her trip to Amman, Jordan for the World Cross Country Championships will be her second international trip after finishing 3rd in the Junior Mountain Running World Championships in Crans Montana, Switzerland. As a junior, Alex ran 10:25.75 in the 3200 meters, 4:54.72 for the mile, and 2:10.82 for the 800 meters.
Hannah Farley - Park Tudor HS - Indianapolis, Ind.
Farley is the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Indiana State 400-meter champion and the indoor 4x400-meter relay small schools champion. She was also the 2008 runner-up and 2007 third-place finisher at the Indiana State Meet at 200 meters. She has personal bests of 24.80 in the 200 meters, 54.31 in the 400 meters and 12.41 in the 100 meters. She was named to the 2006, 2007 and 2008 All-State and All-Conference teams. Hannah was recently awarded the National Federation of State High School Associations Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award at the Girls and Women in Sports Day Luncheon.
Justine Fedronic - Carlmont HS - Belmont, Calif.
Fedronic ranks among the nations top runners in everything from the 800 meters to cross country. She is the 2006, 2007, and 2008, CCS Cross Country Champion and she has finished in the top five at the California State Championships and in both Cross Country and on the track at 800 meters. Fedronic has run 55.94 in the 400, 2:08.08 in the 800, and 4:51.40 in the 1600 meters.
Nicole Heinl - Barrington High School - Barrington, R.I.
Heinl was the ninth ranked hammer thrower in the nation last year and the No. ranked junior with a personal best of 158-11. She finished fifth in the hammer and third in the pole vault at the Rhode Island state meet in 2008 helping her team to a sixth place finish. Nicole was bestowed with All-Division and All-Class honors at Barrington High School for the hammer throw her junior year.
Kathy Kroeger - Independence HS - Franklin, Tenn.
Kroeger is the 2008 Wendy's High School Heisman National winner. She is a four-time Footlocker National finalist and four-time Tennessee State cross country champion. In her four years at the Footlocker National Championships, she has finished 16th, sixth, second, and was the 2006 Cross Country National Champion. She holds the Tennessee state record in both the 3200 and 5000 meters. Kroeger was also selected as the 2007 and the 2008 Tennessee Gatorade State Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year. She has run 10:24.53 for two miles and 4:51.47 for the mile.
Carissa Levingston - Midwest City HS - Midwest City, Okla.
Levingston is one of the best female sprinters in the country. She is the fastest female high school student in the history of Oklahoma track and field in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. She is a yearly Conference, District and Regional championships competitor and record holder. She holds the state record in the 100 and the 200 meters, at 11.57 and 23.69, respectively. 'Dyestat' track website ranks Carissa No. 3 in the nation amongst all seniors in the 100 meters and No. 3 in the 200 meters as well. Levingston was the 2008 Gatorade Athlete of the Year. She was also the Daily Oklahoman Athlete of the year, Scholar Athlete of the Year, and was awarded the prestigious: Jim Thorpe Athlete of the Year award. She is a member of the National Honor society, the 4.0 club, and the Superintendants Honor Club.
Maria Malone - Folsom HS - Folsom, Calif.
Malone was the 2007 Northern California Junior Cross Country Runner of the Year. She is a California All-State selection in both cross country and track. She finished sixth in the 3200 meters at the 2008 California State Track and Field Championships and finished in the top-10 at both the 2007 and 2008 California State Cross Country Championships. Malone was one of the top juniors in the 3200 meters last year with her time of 10:29.92.
Elaine Patten - O'Fallon HS - O'Fallon, Ill.
Patten is the 2008 Illinois indoor state champion and the O'Fallon High School high jump record holder. She owns the highest jump in the state of Illinois (all classes) in 2008 with a personal best of 5-9. She is a two-time state finalist in the event, with a personal best of 5-9 achieved at the 2008 County championships. Patten won the USA Junior Regional Track and Field Championships as a high school junior. She is currently ranked the No. 5 Senior in the United States.
