Walker, Gray-Lawson earn First Team All-Pac-10 honors

In post-season honors determined by a vote by the conference head coaches, senior forward Ashley Walker and junior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson were both named to the 2008-09 Pacific-10 All-Conference first-team. Senior forward Devanei Hampton was named to the third-team. Walker also earned a nod on the Pac-10 All-Defensive Team. Junior guard Natasha Vital earned an honorable mention for All-Pac-10 and for the All-Defensive team.
Walker earned her third straight first-team award. Walker, the Pac-10 leader in scoring, is one of just 11 players in Pac-10 history to score 2,000 points. Walker is responsible for three of the top-five single-game scoring performances this seasonin the Pac-10, recording 32, 31, and 30-point games.
Walker earned her second straight All-Defensive team honor. She ranked third in the Pac-10 in rebounding this season and became Cal's all-time career rebounding leader.
Gray-Lawson earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors for the first time in her career. A second-team selection last season, Gray-Lawson tallied the highest point total in a Pac-10 game this season, scoring a career-high 37 points in California's victory over Bay-Area rival Stanford. Gray-Lawson averaged 12.1 points per game and ranked third in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5).
Hampton, a three-time first-team selection, earned third team honors this year. Hampton averaged 8.7 points per game for the Golden Bears. Sidelined with a knee injuryat the beginning of the season, the 2006-07 Pac-10 Player of the Year has scored in double digits in nine of the last eleven games for California. Hampton is currently two points out of the seventh spot in Cals' career scoring records, tallying 1,528.
Vital was an honorable mention for both the All-Pac-10 team and the Pac-10 all-defensive team for the second straight year. She is second in the Pac-10 in three-point shooting efficiency and averages 9.0 points per game for the Bears.
Stanford junior Jayne Appel was voted the Pac-10 Player of the Year. USC's Briana Gilbreath was honored as the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, while Arizona State senior Briann January wins the Pac-10 Player of the Year honor for the second-consecutive year.
