Women's Golf Finishes Eighth at UNLV
March 11, 2009
BOULDER CITY, Nev. -
Junior Lauren Archer led the way for the Beavers in the final round of the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational today by shooting and even par 72. The Beavers finished the tournament in eighth with a three round total of 909.
Archer finished the tournament 14-over with a three round score of 230 (82-76-72) and had four birdies in the final round at the par-72, 6,234 yard Boulder Creek Golf Club. She finished the event tied for 40th, eight spots higher than at the end of round two.
“Lauren started much better today,” head coach Risë Lakowske said. “She got an up and down when she needed to and it will be a confidence booster going into the Duck Invitational in a week and a half.”
Senior Martha Burkard finished 13-over and tied for 36th with a three round score of 229 (80-71-78).
Oregon State battled the extremely windy conditions during round one on Monday to shot a 296 in round two and continued that through round three when it again shot 296.
Freshman Whitney French shot a 5-over 77 during the final round to finish tied with Burkard for 36th and 13-over.
“Elyse [Okada] really stayed focused and worked on some things and had it going well again today,” Lakowske said. “Her short game was good and she hit a few more greens. The player we saw yesterday and today is the player we’ll see the rest of the spring.”
The Beavers next hit the links at the Oregon Duck Invitational March 23-24 in Junction City, Ore.
“What we’ll take away is that they know what they are capable of,” Lakowske. “We as coaches have seen what they’re capable of. We just need to work on finishing better and playing in the moment.”
