Women's Soccer to Host Elite Finishing Academy
March 11, 2009
The Washington women's soccer team will host an Elite Finishing Academy, starting Wednesday, April 8 from 7:30-9 p.m. and continuing over five consecutive Wednesdays at the Dempsey Indoor Facility.
Academies will take place on April 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th along with May 5th and 6th, each taking place from 7-30-9 p.m. A total of 62 spots are still available, including 50 field player spots and 12 goalkeeper spots. The cost for the camp, which is open to girls between the ages of 14-18, is $200 for the entire five-week academy, with all proceeds benefitting the team's foreign tour of Brazil. While the camp is open to all levels of play, it is intended for players who aspire to compete at the NCAA Division I or II level.
Players will have the opportunity to train with the top players in the state of Washington in every facet of attacking play from shooting and volleying to combination play and breakaways. In conjunction with the Finishing Academy will be an Elite Goalkeeper Academy incorporating the technical and tactical progressions that helped propel Husky alum Hope Solo to the U.S. Women's National Team and Olympic gold.
UW women's soccer head coach Lesle Gallimore will head up the coaching staff and will be joined by associate head coach and Under-17 U.S. Women's National Team assistant coach Amy Griffin. The staff will be rounded out by UW's assistant coach Jim Thomas and volunteer assistant Miranda Armstrong.
These sessions are taken straight from the training ground of the University of Washington women's soccer team and are designed to test the greatest Washington has to offer and to give athletes a taste of what it would be like to be coached by the Washington staff and play for the Huskies.
Players will also have the privilege of using the state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of the Husky campus as the Academy will be held in the Dempsey Indoor Facility.
The Washington women's soccer team is embarking on a 12-day journey to Brazil, the soccer Mecca of the world, in June. In an effort to raise funds for this once-in-a-lifetime trip, proceeds from the academy will benefit this trip.
Applications for the academy will be accepted on a first come first served basis. To apply, return the attached application to:
