First Day of the Zone E Diving Championships in the Books
March 12, 2009
AUSTIN, TX - California divers Molly Hayes and Alissa Barker completed the first day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on the 3-meter board at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Pool on Thursday. Action continues on Friday with the 1-meter diving preliminaries and finals.
'I was actually really pleased with how they performed today,' said head diving coach Tom Davidson. 'I was real happy with their approach and I think they showed real improvement from two weeks ago at Pac-10s. There were some things that they could have tweaked in their routine, but some of that was attributed to championship jitters. Tomorrow's 1-meter is Molly's strength and I think she will do real well with that and on Saturday Alissa can show us what she's capable of on the platform. This championship experience is real good for the both of them; there is a lot of good competition here.'
Although Hayes and Barker didn't reach the finals, Hayes scored a 205.5 and Barker tallied a score of 197.80.
