Bears Win Again, Top St. John's, 6-2

HONOLULU - No. 9 California earned its 10th victory in its last 11 games with a 6-2 come from behind triumph over St. John's at the Chevron Spring Fling hosted by Hawaii on Friday evening. Cal has held its last nine opponents to three runs or less.
The Golden Bears (21-4) conclude the four-day tournament Saturday with games against Radford (Noon) and Utah (2:00 p.m.).
Vernae Sevilla also got into the home run act with her third of the season as well.
Kekahuna has been on a tear since Feb. 28, producing 14 RBI, four home runs and 10 hits. Masaniai has also had a power surge from the plate of late as well with four RBI, five hits and two doubles in her last three games.
Marissa Drewrey earned the win for the Bears, stepping in for Valerie Arioto in the second inning and allowing just one hit (no walks) with 10 Ks in 5.1 innings of work. It was her fourth 10+ strikeout performance of the season, and 13th win overall.
St. John's built a 2-0 lead after two innings of play against Cal, before the Bears exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Masaniai keyed the inning with a two-run single to center field. One batter later, Kekahuna launched a two-run bomb over the right-center field wall to give the Bears a 4-2 lead. Two batters later, Sevilla connected on a solo shot to push the lead to 5-2.
