March 13, 2009

AUSTIN, TX - California freshman diver Molly Hayes reached the finals and earned a 15th place finish with a score of 460.4 on the 1-meter diving board at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Pool on Friday.

Hayes was able to reach the finals after posting a preliminary score of 222.85 - good for 16th place.

'She did exactly what she needed to do today,' said head diving coach Tom Davidson of Hayes. 'She and I were both pleased her performance and she got rid of those first day jitters and showed a lot of confidence out there.'

'Tomorrow we'll see what Alissa [Barker] can do on the platform,' added Davidson. 'She had a good day of practice and hopefully after seeing Molly today, she'll know what it takes to get to the finals.'

The Zone E Diving Championships conclude tomorrow with the platform event.
