Stanford Diving Records A Pair Of Thirds At Zone E Meet

Austin, Texas - For a second straight day, Stanford divers finished near the top at the 2009 Zone E diving championships. Both the men and women had a pair of top place finishers in Friday's events.
In the 1-meter, the women were led by Carmen Stellar who finished third with a score of 541.90. Just behind Stellar was teammate Meg Hostage who finished in fourth place with 535.85 points. The duo has put themselves into good position to qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, but will have to wait until after the platform competition tomorrow to see the if they will advance.
Also competing in the finals of the 1-meter for Stanford was Sarah Ohr who finished 13th with a score of 467.80.
Competing in the prelims was Mary Beth Corbett who finished 26th with a score of 212.05.
For a second straight day the Cardinal men were led by Dwight Dumais. Dumais, who won his first zone title on 1-meter yesterday, finished third on 3-meter on Friday. His score of 759.55 trailed champion Michele Benedetti of Arizona State who had 807.95.
Also faring well for Stanford was Brent Eichenseer who placed fifth with a score of 748.35. The finish gives Eichenseer an opportunity to advance to the NCAA's, but he too will have to wait until after the platform competition to see where he fits.
The Zone E diving championships will conclude tomorrow with the men's and women's platform competition. Six men's divers and seven women will qualify for the NCAA's. The Cardinal divers will know after tomorrow's competition who advanced. They will also have a chance to improve their position or qualify automatically with a good effort on the 10-meter tower.
