The No. 60-ranked California men's tennis team (6-5) prevailed, 5-2, over No. 29-ranked Tulsa (13-6, 2-0 Conference USA) today at the Hellman Tennis Complex to give the Golden Bears three consecutive victories. Cal's No. 7-ranked doubles team of senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini pulled off the 8-6 upset of No. 3-ranked Arnau Brugues and Philip Stephens on the top doubles court to secure the all-important doubles point for the Bears and momentum heading into singles play.

Before Chizever and Zerbini were able to knock off Brugues and Stephens, first-year Bears Nick Andrews and Thai Tu got an 8-4 win against Marko Ballok and Alberto Sottocorno at No. 3 doubles. With the 1-0 lead, Tu wasted little time pushing Cal to a 2-0 advantage as he took out Wojciech Starakiewicz, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Andrews also continued his hot hand as he pulled out a 7-2 tiebreaker to win the first set before pinning up the 6-3 second-set win over Stephens at No. 3 singles. The win put the Bears on the edge of the team victory with a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Jonathan Dahan secured the win for Cal with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Ballok at No. 6 singles before the Golden Hurricane was able to put a point on the board. Tulsa got its first point as No. 3-ranked Brugues came back from dropping the first set, 6-3, to claim the next two, 6-1, 6-1 over No. 119-ranked Zerbini at the top court. Soon afterwards, Tulsa got a second point from Ashley Watling who also came back from losing the first set to defeat sophomore Bozhidar Katsarov at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 7-6(3), 1-0(5), in a super-tiebreaker.

Senior Eoin Heavey got off court last as he too returned from one set down to pull off the 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 victory against Sottocorno at No. 2 singles. Heavey's win made the final score, 5-2, in Cal's favor.

The Bears head to Pebble Beach, Calif. next weekend for matches against Southern Methodist (Saturday, March 21 at 10 a.m.) and San Francisco (Sunday, March 22 at 1 p.m.). Please check CalBears.com for more information and updates.
