Giles In Third At Southern Highlands Collegiate

Sophomore Matt Giles carded his second straight round under par and is now in third place, while senior Tom Glissmeyer fired a 3-under 69 to highlight the efforts of the No. 2 USC men's golf team during the second round of the 2009 Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship on Saturday (March 14) at the Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas, Nev.
USC, still playing without injured two-time All-American Jamie Lovemark (broken finger), is tied for eighth at 13-over 589 (295-294). Oklahoma State is in first at 15-under 561 (291-270), 12 strokes better than second-place and host UNLV (573-285-288).
Giles, gunning for his sixth top 7 finish in as many events, is now 6-under with a 138 (67-71), four strokes off the lead. He had five birdies in the second round, including a 3-under front 9. Glissmeyer moved into a tie for 16th at 1-over 145 (76-69) courtesy of seven birdies during a strong round.
The event concludes Sunday.
