Laredo, Texas - The Washington State men's golf team finished in sole possession of seventh place at the par-72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club, Tuesday.

Sophomore Nick Ellis finished atop of the leaderboard for the Cougars. In the final round he carded a 76 (+4) to finish in a tie for 15th place. Ellis now has 13 career t0p 25 finishes, ranking him tied for ninth on the all-time list.

Junior Austin Hurt was even in the final round to place in a tie for 37th.

'Austin played really well today in the rain and cold. Nick had a good week with another top 25 in a very strong field,' said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams.

Freshman Trent Sanders was even in the first round and carded a final round score of 79 (+7) to finish in a tie for 40th place. Junior Kevin Tucker finished in a tie for 42nd place after posting a three-round score of 228 (+12).

Wrapping up the Cougar scorers is freshman Paul Mitzel who posted a three-round score of 229 (+13) to finish in a tie for 47th place.

The WSU Cougars posted a score of 301 in the final round to finish two strokes out of the top five teams.

'We played well up until the last few holes then we gave several shots away. We beat four teams that are ranked ahead of us including Vanderbilt and Louisville,' said Williams. 'It wasn't a bad week and I expect we'll move up in the national rankings.'

Next up for the Cougars is the Duck Invitational, March 23-24 in Eugene, Ore.
