Arizona's Goldman, California's Juricova Named Pac-10 Men's And Women's Tennis Players Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA sophomore Jay Goldman and CALIFORNIA freshman Jana Juricova have been named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for Mar. 9 - 15, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Goldman dominated both of his singles matches last week, playing in the No. 1 slot for Arizona. Against Cal Poly on Mar. 14, the Worcester, Mass., native defeated Andre Dome in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. He followed up with another 6-3, 6-2 win, this time over Christian Bierich of Iowa on Mar. 15. The sophomore has been victorious in five straight singles matches, while the Wildcats are on a 12-match winning streak.
This is the first weekly honor for Goldman and the sixth all-time for Arizona.
Juricova led Cal to wins over No. 5 Baylor (4-3) and No. 14 Arizona State (5-2) last week. In singles play, she defeated 46th-ranked Lenka Broosova of Baylor, 6-0, 6-2. The Piestany, Slovak Republic, native then upset ASU's Kelcy McKenna, ranked No. 3 in the nation, 6-0, 6-1 on the road. Her singles record stands at a team-best 26-4 on the season. In doubles, Juricova, paired with Mari Andersson, took out Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanviuk of Baylor, 8-3, before claiming an 8-6 victory over the Sun Devils' 10th-ranked duo of Micaela Hein and Mckenna.
This is the first weekly honor for Juricova and the eighth overall for California.
