WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ULCA freshman Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs and ARIZONA STATE senior Tiana Jean merited Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-10 Special Performance of the Week for March 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Hopfner-Hibbs, nabbing her third - and UCLA’s 26th - Gymnast of the Week honor, guided the Bruins’ come-from-behind win over No. 12 Nebraska on Sunday. Jean had a career night in her final home meet at Wells Fargo Arena and consequently earned her first weekly Conference award.

Hopfner-Hibbs, of Toronto, Ont., won the all-around for the fourth time this season, scoring a 39.5 and her second-highest mark of the year. She also won the floor exercise with a career-high 9.95, helping UCLA overcome a 0.65 deficit heading into the last rotation and lifting the Bruins to the win by a margin of .775. Her floor score led the way to a team season-high total of 49.575 on the event, a mark that is UCLA’s highest on floor in four years and the ninth-highest in school history. It also is the nation’s second-best high score on the exercise. In addition, Hopfner-Hibbs tied for third on vault (9.875) and placed third on beam (9.825) in a pressure-packed situation, competing after the Bruins already had two falls. Hopfner-Hibbs leads UCLA with a season average of 39.294 in the all-around and ranks 15th in the nation with a RQS of 39.355.

Jean, a Puyallup, Wash., native, shined against nationally ranked Nebraska in her last regular season contest as a Sun Devil. The highlight of both her night and the team’s occured on beam when Jean performed a nearly flawless set and earned a 9.95. The score marks not only the Sun Devils’ highest beam score this season, but also their highest individual score on any apparatus in 2009. Jean’s flirtation with perfection helped boost Arizona State to a season-high 49.35 on the beam. Only seven teams in the nation have beaten or matched that tally. In addition, Jean tied her career best of 9.9 on the floor exercise for the second-time this season. In her third and final event of the competition, Jean’s 9.8 tied for sixth on bars.
