UA Prepares for First Home Meet
March 18, 2009
The UA men's and women's track and field teams will waste no time getting into the outdoor season after the conclusion of the 2009 indoor season just this past weekend. The Wildcats will host their first home meet of the season this weekend in the form of the 27th annual Willie Williams Classic at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
The Willie Williams meet will be one of the biggest in the country this weekend as it is not only a collegiate event but a high school event as well. Over 1,000 athletes from high schools in Arizona, California, Texas and even New York will see competition this weekend in addition to the over 800 collegiate athletes who will be in attendance.
The meet has consistantly been one of the most competitive meets for high school athletes to compete in in the country while also giving them a chance to set what life is like at the next level. Events will kick off Friday at 11 a.m. with the high school events with the college events following immediately afterward, beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The events will continue Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the high school and collegiate athletes altering events, giving the crowd a chance to see the up and coming talent at the high school level while also witnessing some of the premier collegiate athletes in the nation.
Starting lists for the events will be released later today.
