Women's Rowing Heads North to take on Gonzaga
March 18, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s crew is preparing to take the water for the second time of the 2009 season as it travels to Spokane, Wash. to take on Gonzaga on March 22.
The Beavers are coming off of a sweep of the University of Victoria and seek to carry that momentum into their races in Spokane. Oregon State and Gonzaga’s varsity crews met twice during the 2008 spring season and the Beavers emerged victorious both times. The first came at Dexter Lake on March 22 during a dual regatta in which the Bulldogs won a hotly contested race. The two crews met again at the Pac-10 Championships, where the Beavers V8+ defeated Gonzaga by 8.9 seconds in the opening heat.
After overcoming cold and windy conditions in Victoria in their last regatta, the Beavers will face more of the same in Spokane. The Bulldogs were forced to move their men’s races last weekend due to inclement weather at their normal home course on Silver Lake.
Oregon State will travel to Spokane with five boats. The Novice 8+ will lead off the women’s races at 9:10 a.m., followed by the V8+ twenty minutes later. The Second Varsity 8+ is scheduled to race at 9:50 and the Varsity 4+ will race at 10:05. The Second Novice 8+ crews will finish the day when they race at 10:15.
