The No. 5-ranked California women's tennis team (11-2, 2-0 Pac-10) posted a 5-2 win over No. 42 Denver (8-4) today at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Golden Bears clinched their 11th win of the season when No. 17-ranked freshman Jana Juricova won her 27th singles match of the year with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 67-ranked Mallory Voelker at the top singles court. The win also snapped Denver's seven-match winning streak under the guidance of third-year head coach and Cal alum, Amy Jensen.

Cal's top doubles court featured the return of a familiar fall-tournament duo as Juricova teamed up with senior Bojana Bobusic to kick off the day with an 8-2 win over Voelker and Julia Bauregger. At court two, sophomore Marina Cossou returned to action after a long layoff due to injury to join senior Claire Ilcinkas (ranked No. 9 together) in an 8-2 win against Kyla Iwinski and Ute Schnoy. The win at court two secured the doubles point for the Bears for the ninth time this season.

The Pioneers tied the match by claiming the first singles point at No. 6 singles when Bhavani Tirumurti took a 6-0, 6-0 win against freshman Catalina Visico but the Bears answered back to take a 2-1 lead as No. 38-ranked Ilcinkas dropped Annette Aksdal, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. No. 22-ranked Bobusic got her 26th singles win of the year when she defeated Schnoy at No. 3 singles to give the Bears a commanding 3-1 advantage.

Juricova sealed the deal next at the top court with her 6-1, 6-2 win against Voelker. Freshman Stephany Chang got in on the winning track next when she defeated Iwinski on court five, 6-2, 6-1. The last match off the court went to the Pioneers as Bauregger pulled off a win in the third-set super-tiebreaker against senior Marion Ravelojaona, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(10-6).

The Bears are home once more before returning to Pac-10 competition in the coming weeks as they host No. 18 Fresno State (8-4) at noon on Saturday, March 21, at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
