Stanford NFL Hopefuls Shine at Pro Day

March 19, 2009

STANFORD, Calif. - Nine former Stanford players displayed their talents before representatives from all 32 NFL teams during Pro Timing Day held today on the Stanford campus.

Defensive end Pannel Egboh, center Alex Fletcher, running back Anthony Kimble, linebacker Pat Maynor, offensive lineman Ben Muth, defensive back Wopamo Osaisai and kicker Aaron Zagory were among the participants from last year's team.

In addition, defensive end Udeme Udofia and punter Jay Ottovegio, who played at Stanford from 2004-07, also worked out in front of the scouts.

The day consisted of classroom testing, weight room evaluations, on-field agility drills and football specific position drills, operating in a similar format to the NFL Combine which was held in Indianapolis in February.

Egboh recorded a vertical leap of 35 inches, which was an improvement from his 31.5-inch mark registered at the Combine. He also improved his 40 time to 4.75, compared to the 4.90 mark he recorded in Indianapolis.

'I thought everything went great today,' said the Egboh. 'Having the opportunity to train and compete for a NFL job is a dream come true.'

Fletcher began the day with an impressive showing in the weight room, totaling 31 reps at 225 pounds in the bench press. He also added six inches to his broad jump mark from the distance he recorded in Indianapolis.

'I've been pleased with the whole process,' said Fletcher. 'It's been a grind but it's all necessary to get to the next level.'

Kimble participated in shuttles and position drills while improving his time in the 40 from 4.64 to 4.56.

'This is a much more comfortable environment than the Combine,' said Kimble. 'We are more familiar with the surroundings and it's not as stressful. It was a great day to compete with my teammates and try to get to the next level.'

Kimble acknowledged that there may be too much emphasis placed on 40 times and other marks that are used in evaluating players.

'It all comes down if you can play football or not,' he said. 'That's the bottom line.'

This year's NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25-26 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Over the last 11 years, a total of 35 Stanford players have been chosen in the NFL Draft, including 26 since 2002.
