Barnes Finishes Eighth at NCAA Championships
March 21, 2009
St. Louis, Mo. - Senior Heinrich Barnes (Pretoria, South Africa) came up short in the seventh place match on Saturday morning, taking eighth at the 2009 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
No. 10 Kyle Borshoff controlled the seventh place match at 149 pounds, scoring a takedown and earning back points early in the first period. Barnes chalked up the escape in the second period, but Borshoff added a pair of points in the third period on an escape and riding time to take a 9-1 major decision.
Barnes becomes the first All-American since 2007 when Ty Watterson finished fourth at heavyweight, and he garners the 83rd honor for Oregon State.
Barnes was the only wrestler at 149 pounds to be named an All-American that was not a national top 12 seed.
