SACRAMENTO - The California softball team exited the final day of the Capital Classic hosted by Sacramento State with a 4-1 loss to the Cal Poly Mustangs on Sunday afternoon.
Cal (22-7) has a full slate of games this week beginning with two at Sacramento State on Tuesday and at Pacific on Wednesday. The Golden Bears then open conference play on Friday at home vs. Washington and then Saturday and Sunday against UCLA, also in Berkeley.
The Bears had three steals, two courtesy of Valerie Arioto and one by Shannon Thomas to bring the team total to 100 stolen bases, tying the second-most thefts in a season in program history. The school record is 101 set in 1979.
Thomas and Arioto had four of Cal's six hits on the afternoon. Arioto also scored the lone run for the Bears after Thomas snaked a two-out RBI single in the third inning.
Marissa Drewrey suffered the loss, allowing nine hits and three earned runs with seven strikeouts to fall to 14-6 on the season.
