Bruins Set to Compete in Collegiate Match Play Championship

The 31st-ranked UCLA men's golf team will compete in the 2009 CollegiateMatch Play Championship at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.,Sunday through Tuesday.
The Farms GC will play to a par of 72 over 6,911 yards. Sixteen teams willcompete in a 36-hole medal play competition Sunday to determineseeds for the match play draw, which begins on Mar. 23. The top eight teamsfrom medal play will advance to the championship bracket while teams ninethru 16 will compete in the consolation bracket.
In addition to the Bruins, the field includes fourth-ranked Stanford, No. 8Alabama, No. 9 Texas Tech and 10th-ranked Indiana. Other local teamsinclude the University of San Diego, San Diego State and UC Irvine.
UCLA won this championship last season when it was exclusively a match play event.From that lineup, only two players return -- senior Erik Flores andsophomore Philip Francis. Francis was 4-0-0 in his matches and Flores was2-1-1 in his competition.
