The No. 46-ranked California men's tennis team (8-5) extended its winning streak to five matches with a 6-1 victory over San Francisco (4-8, 1-1 WCC) today at the fourth annual Pebble Beach Collegiate Tennis Classic hosted by USF at the Beach and Tennis Club. The Golden Bears clinched the match on sophomore Zach Gilbert's 6-2, 6-2 effort against Michael Carreno at No. 6 singles. It was Gilbert's first dual singles victory.

Cal won the doubles point for the 10th time this season as freshmen Nick Andrews and Thai Tu defeated Einar Hart and Rainer Nachbauer, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles. Andrews and Tu now hold a perfect 5-0 record in doubles matches. Earlier, Cal's No. 9-ranked duo of senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini teamed up for their 22nd victory together as they defeated Asaf Cohen and Thong Tu on the top doubles court. With the doubles point secured, senior Eoin Heavey and sophomore Bozhidar Katsarov added one more Cal win with a 7-6(6) defeat of Torin Ching and Mitch Del Rosario on court two.

With the upper hand heading into singles matches, the Bears jumped out ahead by two in a hurry as Andrews completed a near perfect 6-0, 6-1 win over Nachbauer at No. 3 singles. Zerbini came off the courts next when he dropped No. 122-ranked Thong Tu in a 6-3, 6-1 win to give Cal the 3-0 lead. After that, Gilbert notched Cal's eighth victory of the year as he finished off Carreno at court six.

With the match decided, sophomore Jonathan Dahan took home his 14th singles win of the year as he downed Jacob Hartwig at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-0. The Dons claimed their only point of the day when Heavey was forced to retire due to injury at No. 2 singles against Cohen. After splitting the first two sets, Katsarov was the last one off court as he pulled out the 10-6 super tiebreaker win over Hart on court four.

The Bears open Pac-10 conference play next weekend as they host USC on Friday, March 27, at 1:30 p.m. and UCLA on Saturday, March 28, at 1 p.m. Please check CalBears.com for more information.
