THIS WEEK: The Washington State University baseball team (8-11) opens the Pacfiic-10 Conference portion of its schedule with a three-game series at California...game times are 2:30 p.m., Friday, noon, Saturday and 1 p.m., Sunday.

SERIES AGAINST CALIFORNIA: The Golden Bears lead the all-time series 38-26-1...first meeting was 12-3 California win in Pullman, June 16, 1902...second-straight season Washington State has opened Pacific-10 play against California...Golden Bears took two of three games last season in Pullman...California has won the last four series, winning two games in each of the last three years following a sweep in 2005...sweep in 2005 series was also Pac-10 opener for Washington State in Berkeley...Cougars won two games in 2004 series...Washington State's last series win in Berkeley was in 2001 when the Cougars captured a pair of games.
COUGARS IN PACIFIC-10 OPENERS: The last time Washington State opened Pacific-10 play on the road was 2006 when the Cougars were victorious in two of three games at No. 17 Stanford.
