Talisa Rhea Named Pac-10 All-Academic First Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - For the third time this season, Oregon State sophomore guard Talisa Rhea has been honored by the Pacific-10 Conference. She has been named to the Pac-10's All-Academic First Team.
Additionally, Mercedes Fox-Griffin has been named All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Rhea is majoring in exercise and sports science, earning a 3.54 cumulative grade point average through fall term. She has been one of the leading scorers for the Beavers this season, and comes into their WNIT third round game averaging 13.7 points per game. She leads the team with 64 three-pointers, and is just three away from tying her career best of 67 set last season. She also averages 3.9 rebounds per game and has tallied 69 assists on the year, which is third on the club.
It is the second academic award of the year for Rhea, who was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Region Second Team during the 2008-09 regular season.
It is the third time this season she has been honored by the Pac-10. She was the league's initial Player of the Week this season after knocking down a conference record 10 three-pointers in the season opener against Sacramento State. Then, just a couple weeks ago, she was named to the All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention squad at the league's annual banquet.
For Fox-Griffin, it is the second straight year she has been an academic honoree. She was also honored as an honorable mention selection last season. This year, she has played in started all 31 games for the Beavers, averaging eight points and 2.6 rebounds per game. She leads the team with 130 assists.
Fox-Griffin was also named to the All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention team at the league's annual banquet.
Oregon State now awaits its third round opponent. The Beavers will be watching the Nebraska-New Mexico game Wednesday to find out who their opponent will be.
