Track Competing in Bay Area Friday
March 25, 2009
CORVALLIS – Oregon State women’s track will run its largest group of athletes thus far in the spring this Friday in the Bay Area. Eighteen runners in three events will run in San Francisco, Calif., March 27 at the SF State Distance Carnival while sophomore Casey Masterson will be the lone runner at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., Friday.
“Really our biggest goal out of this trip is to get some great training in,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “We’re going to run a lot of women in the 2-mile, which is an off event. The main emphasis is to get on the plane Saturday night and come back healthier than we were eight days before.”
Competition at the SF State Distance Carnival begins at 10 a.m. at Cox Stadium while Masterson will run at 6:35 p.m. at Cobb Track in the Stanford Invitational in a 15-runner section.
More than 30 collegiate and club teams are scheduled to be represented at the Distance Carnival. Oregon State has runners in the 1,500-meters, 2-mile and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
“The women are really looking forward to this trip,” Sullivan said. “Anytime you can go down to San Francisco and end spring break on a great trip is good for the team. They are really looking forward to competing and getting back on track.”
Results will be made available following Friday’s events at www.osubeavers.com.
