The No. 8-ranked California women's tennis team (11-4, 2-1 Pac-10) fell in a narrow 4-3 defeat at the hands of No. 10 USC (14-2, 2-0 Pac-10) today at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium. The Golden Bears managed three wins in singles matches including the 28th singles wins for both No. 22-ranked senior Bojana Bobusic and No. 17-ranked freshman Jana Juricova.

In doubles play, the Trojans started the day off with an 8-0 shutout by Alison Ramos and Maria Sanchez over freshman Stephany Chang and senior Marion Ravelojaona at court three. Meanwhile, at No. 1 doubles, USC's No. 10-ranked combo of Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu took advantage of the newly formed doubles-tandem of sophomore Mari Andersson and Bobusic to claim the point for USC with an 8-5 win.

Cal knotted the score at one-all when Juricova took a victory as No. 13 Sanchez retired from her match due to injury. USC jumped back out on top, however, as Ravelojaona fell to No. 62-ranked Alison Ramos, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. On the next court, Chang struggled with Leyla Entekhabi but lost in a 6-1, 6-1 decision. The Trojans recorded their fourth point at court three as No. 26 Fink defeated No. 38 senior Claire Ilcinkas, 6-4, 6-4.

With the match already decided, Cal was able to log two more points on the day as No. 22 Bobusic fought off a comeback bid by No. 58 Niculescu at court four to win the super-tiebreaker, 11-9. At court two, No. 75-ranked Andersson secured her come-from-behind win in dramatic fashion as she returned from losing the first set, 6-4 and won the next two, 6-2 and 7-5.

The Bears stay in Los Angeles and prepare to take on No. 9 UCLA (13-4, 1-1 Pac-10) in a noon match tomorrow (March 28) at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Live scores are available via the women's tennis page at www.uclabruins.com.
