Archer Tied for 17th After Two Rounds at MountainView Collegiate
March 28, 2009
TUCSON, Ariz. – After two rounds of play the Oregon State women’s golf team is in 14th-place at the MountainView Collegiate. The Beavers shot rounds of 298 and 310 on Saturday at MountainView Golf Course, a par-72 6,363 yard course.
The MountainView Collegiate is a two-day, 54-hole tournament with the first two rounds being played on Saturday and the final round being played on Sunday.
Junior Lauren Archer led the Beavers shooting a 147 on the 36-hole day, with rounds of 1-under-par 71 and 4-over 76 leaving her tied for 17th heading into the final round.
“Lauren hit fairways and greens and made a lot of putts,' head coach Rise Lakowske said. 'She played good target golf. When she didn’t hit the greens she got up-and-down. That’s how you have to play this course.”
Sophomore Cara Freeman was just a shot behind Archer with a 148 in a tie for 22nd. Freeman shot even-par in the first round and followed up with a 4-over 76.
“Cara did a lot of the same things as Lauren,” Lakowske said. “She hit most of her targets. From tee-to-green, she played very well for us today.”
“Our first round of golf was pretty decent,” Lakowske said. “We were hitting targets and weren’t making a lot of mistakes. The second round we ran into some trouble. Made some three-putts, missed some fairways and weren’t hitting greens. We need to evaluate what we did well in the first round to correct what went wrong in the second to put up a good final score.”
San Jose State leads the tournament with a two-round total of 571. Individually, there is a three way tie for the lead at 140 between Erica Moston and Cristina Corpus of San Jose State and Cindy LaCrosse of Louisville.
The Beavers tee-off at 8 a.m. in a shotgun start for the final round of play.
