WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- ARIZONA STATE senior outfielder Kaitlin Cochran and STANFORD senior pitcher Missy Penna were named Pac-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 23-29, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Cochran led Arizona State to its first consecutive run-rule sweep in a Pac-10 weekend, batting a perfect 1.000 over three games to lead the sixth-ranked Sun Devils to wins over Oregon and Oregon State.  The Loma Linda, Calif., native went 5-for-5 at the plate, belting three home runs and one double.  Cochran drove in eight runs and compiled an extraordinary 3.000 slugging percentage.  In addition to her five at bats, the senior was walked seven times over the weekend.

Cochran currently leads all active Pac-10 players with 64 career home runs and ranks seventh in Pac-10 history.  This marks the fifth career honor for Cochran and the 59th overall for Arizona State.

Penna, a native of Miami, Fla., helped No. 3 Stanford earn three wins over ranked teams last week, throwing 34.1 innings and striking out a total of 45 batters.  Penna, who leads the Pac-10 with the most active career Player of the Week honors with eight, began her week facing No. 24 Cal Poly.  The senior threw a school single-game record of 19 strikeouts in the game, breaking her own record of 17 set in 2008.

Penna became just the second pitcher this season to defeat second-ranked Washington with ace Danielle Lawrie in the circle.  Stanford went 2-0 against the Huskies over the weekend, with Penna striking out 21 more batters in the series.  Penna now ranks eighth in Pac-10 history with 1,096 career strikeouts.

This marks the 43rd honor overall for the Cardinal.
